Racism in the 21st century should be a non-issue. Racism is discrimination on a person’s racial group. This could mean oppression, prejudice and even violence. In the same way controversy over interracial marriage is still predominant in some parts of the world. This stems from racist ideologies and concerns, such as fear of "racial impurity." In most cases, American men who marry Asian wives are subject to scrutiny among friends and even family members. However, it was only 40 years ago - on June 12, 1967 - that the U.S. Supreme Court knocked down a Virginia statute barring whites from marrying nonwhites. Over the years opinion polls on interracial marriage, especially among youngsters, have tremendously gained popularity. Although sporadic cases of taunts and threats are still reported, interracial marriage is universally accepted.
