Not known for its amazing Spa’s in this day and age Melksham did start to attract health seekers into a row of hotels at one point on its aptly called Spa road. Unfortunately due to the close proximity of Bath, and in turn its baths Melksham didnt see the through put that would have sustained the hotels and the spa closed. The hotels have since been converted into residential properties apart of course from the Regency hotel which due to its outstanding service is a fine hotel to the current day. The Spa Lodging houses on the north side and Pumphouse exist to this day and all have been converted to modern day living, but the exteriors have been preserved. The period for the Spa was very short and the close proximity of Bath did not help its cause but once again this is an interesting chapter for the Melksham community.
