Heartburn after gall bladder surgery may be due to GERD since poor eating habits may contribute to gall bladder disease in which the gall bladder becomes inflamed and infected.  It is a serious condition and medical intervention is required.  Symptoms include abdominal pain, indigestion, bloating, vomiting and digestion discomfort.  A common side effect is GERD which is the main cause of heartburn after this type of surgery, though there is little evidence to support it.  Post cholecystectomy syndrome is experienced by 40% of the patients who complain of heartburn, diarrhea, gas and bloating.  Another cause of heartburn is gastroperesis, though less common than GERD.   A medical professional should be consulted to obtain relief from these various symptoms.
